“Fuck, fuck,” I gasped as he changed the angle just right. “B-Brooks, fuck.”

Once he got up a good rhythm, one of his arms wrapped around my chest like a steel band while the other hand gripped my chin and held my head at an angle so he could devour my mouth.

I kept my fists clenched against the wall, but I was pressed so hard against it, my forearms would likely have scratches and splinters from the wood. I didn’t care. Every single mark on my body from this encounter would be appreciated later as a memento of this wild moment in time.

“So fucking tight, Jesus.” Brooks kept his mouth on mine as he groaned. “Malachi.”

“Make me come,” I begged.

He let go of my face and moved his hand down to grip my dick. I let out a cry as he squeezed just right and began stroking me.

“Want you to spill all over this barn wall,” he said into my ear. “Want to feel you let go, but I want to keep fucking you forever. You feel so good. So fucking good.”

The rumble of his voice in my ear, the scent of our combined sweat in my nose, and the feel of his tight grip on my dick all came together to get me there.

“Oh God,” I cried just before coming all over his hand. I banged the barn wall with my fist to keep from screaming some more as my body clenched around him.

Brooks made a kind of choking sound as he slammed into me for the final time and held me tight through his own orgasm.

After our bodies finished shuddering, but before we’d caught our breath, I let out a huff of laughter. “And here I thought things were going to be awkward.”

Brooks laughed against the back of my neck, and his arms tightened around me as he pressed a kiss to my nape. “God, you’re sexy.” He gently pulled out and squeezed my shoulder with a murmured “Hold on” while he found somewhere to dispose of the condom. When he got back to me, he was carrying a clean shop rag. He wiped me down tenderly with a sweet half-smile on his lips.

“Thanks,” I said. Honestly, I couldn’t remember if anyone had ever been so sweet with me after sex. It left me feeling exposed and vulnerable, like I was an animal dead asleep with my belly pointing straight up to a sky infested with buzzards.

“I intended to come here and thank you,” he said while he pulled my pants and underwear back up and fastened everything. “But then I saw you there, leaning over the damned workbench with your sexy ass sticking out. Jesus. Why is it that my good intentions go out the window and I lose my mind whenever I’m around you?”

I dropped my shoulders and looked down at my feet, trying hard not to think about whether or not that meant that Brooks wouldn’t have wanted to have sex with me had he been in his right mind.

He tilted my chin up until I was looking at him again. “I lose my mind in the best way, Mal. The kind of way that makes me crave being near you. I couldn’t stop thinking about you from the moment I left you last night until I fell asleep, and you were the first thing on my mind the moment I woke up this morning. I’m already missing you again and I haven’t even left.”

I ran my hands up his broad chest and around his neck, taking a big step forward until we were close enough that I could breathe again. This wasn’t real, I knew it wasn’t. But, God, how I wanted to pretend for just a minute.

I leaned my head against his shoulder and tucked my nose into his neck, seeking more of his expensive scent. It was mixed with coffee and now metal shavings, and it was enough to almost make my dick hard again.

“That sign,” he said again, as if we hadn’t just stopped long enough for a hard fuck against the wall in Mr. Ivey’s workshop. Brooks cleared his throat. “Mal… I don’t… I don’t even know what to say. How… how…” He let out a breath and ran his fingers through my hair before tilting my head up again so I could see him. “How did you do that? Why? Why did you?”

I shrugged and tried hiding in the safety of his neck again, but he wouldn’t let me.

“It’s incredible. I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing it is, and how…” His voice trailed off, rough with emotion. “How special you are for doing that for the people of this town.”

I wanted to laugh. While I was quickly coming to appreciate and even enjoy the people of Licking Thicket, I hadn’t done it for them. I’d done it for Brooks. Because seeing the stress on his face when everyone mentioned how much the missing sign upset his dad had been too much for me. He deserved an easy win. He deserved to have not another single thing more added to his plate this week.
