Joey clamped a hand on my shoulder. “Easy, brother,” he told me. He narrowed his eyes at Roger. “Watch your tone with my VP,” Joey warned him. “Ink’s worked his fucking way up the food chain so he can sit at my table with his eyes closed wishing he were somewhere else. You haven’t.”

I sat back in my seat, crossing my arms back over my chest as I let my eyes slide back closed. “How many guns am I looking to be selling tonight?” I asked Joey.

“Fifty,” he told me.

I opened my eyes to look at him. “Small order,” I noted.

He nodded. “Gang a couple towns over from them wants the guns,” he told me. He shrugged. “Money in our pocket, so I frankly don’t give a fuck.” He looked at Whiler. “Get with Elaina today. I think she’s wanting to do some fundraiser this week in town, but I’m not one hundred percent sure. Not gonna lie, I zone out on that shit. Find out what she needs to do it, and make sure she gets it by this afternoon.”

Whiler grinned. “Still wonder how a woman like her got stuck with a man like you.”

“My dick,” Joey retorted. A round of laughter sounded around the table. “Anyone have anything to bring to the table?” he asked.

“Couple of women ended up at the hospital last night,” Kyle spoke up. “Beaten almost to death. One of them probably isn’t going to make it. We need to find out who the fuck did it.”

Joey clenched his jaw, his eyes flaring with rage. All of us sitting at that table, Joey especially, had a soft spot for abused women.

He nodded once and looked at Jamie, our road captain. “Get your ass up to that hospital and find out who the fuck did this. People want to beat on women? This is the wrong fucking town to do that shit in.”

Jamie nodded once. Joey slammed his gavel on the table, adjourning church. I moved to stand up, but he shook his head at me. “Want to talk to you for a minute,” he told me. I planted my ass back in my seat with a heavy sigh. Once everyone cleared out, he turned his attention to me. “Jessie was wound tight last night. She okay?”

I nodded at him. “She’s dealing with some shit, but I’ve got her, brother.”

He blew out a harsh breath. “I wish she would just let you the fuck in, Ink. She’s fucking hurting.”

I nodded, my heart clenching in my chest as the image of her on her knees with tears in her eyes flashed in my mind. The only time I wanted that woman crying on her knees was if she had my dick stuffing her mouth.

“I know, and I’m making progress,” I assured him. “She’s going to be okay, brother. Just trust me.”

He clapped a hand to my shoulder. “I do, Ink. It’s the only reason I fucking backed down, and I’ve let you two fuck around.”

My lips tilted up the slightest bit. “Well, not fucking around anymore, Joey,” I told him. He arched an eyebrow at me in question. Pride swirled in my chest as I remembered Jessie’s promise to me last night. “Your sister let me claim her last night. My name is going on the back of her neck today.”

His eyes widened. “You fucking serious right now?” he asked me. I nodded. He scrubbed his hands down his face, drawing in a deep breath. “Fuck,” he wheezed. “Give me a minute. I don’t mean to be an emotional bastard, but Charles—he fucked her up bad. I thought she would never get past it.”

“I’m not giving up on her, Joey. Not now—not ever,” I promised him. “You’ll have your sister back. Just keep giving me time.”

He nodded at me. I stood up from the chair and left the chapel, going in search of Elaina. I found her in the kitchen, cleaning up from making breakfast. “Hey, darlin’, Joey needs you.”

She looked up at me. “Everything okay?”

I nodded at her. “He can explain it all to you, but he could use you right now.”

She nodded, moving past me to go to the chapel. And I went back down the hall, ready to climb back into bed with my woman.

Jessie

I drew in a deep breath as I moved towards Ink. He was sitting at a table with my brother, Elaina, and Whiler. Ink had come back to bed but had woken up before me again. I vaguely remembered him kissing me good morning and heading to the bathroom to most likely get a shower.

I had woken up about thirty minutes ago, and after getting a shower, I had decided to come find Ink.

I was his old lady now, which meant I couldn’t run from him anymore. That thought was a bit more terrifying than it had been last night. But I’d given him my word.
