“Ink found him?” I asked in astonishment. From what I understood, the asshole fled the club he was part of and ran for the hills before he could be taken out, too.

Alejandro grunted as he pushed open the front door and gestured for me to walk in ahead of him. “That’s what I said, isn’t it?” I glared at him. He laughed. “Yes, Ink found him. He’s been digging while he’s been here—burying himself in finding the person responsible when he hasn’t been doing shit for me.”

I frowned. Had I really fucked with Ink that badly? He used to be a pretty fun guy—always hanging with my brother and Whiler. The three of them together was normally a damn sight to see.

But I had sent Ink packing.

Yet, the time apart had given me time to put my own feelings into perspective. And I had gone to see a therapist who had actually helped me a lot. I had an issue with taking care of myself. I found more control in harming myself than I did in taking care of myself.

So, I used my brother to make sure I held myself accountable. I knew I needed to come to Ink healthy. It would show him that I was serious this time. I had gained a lot of weight—so much weight, actually, that I had to basically buy an entire new wardrobe of clothes and donate all of my old ones.

Alejandro led me into the kitchen. I took a seat on one of the bar stools and watched him as he poured me a glass of water from the fridge before handing it to me. I gulped down the cool liquid, thankful for the drink. I was beyond thirsty.

The sound of the front door opening reached my ears. “Alejandro, Joey said Jessie is gone—" Ink stopped as he stepped into the kitchen, staring at me. His expression never changed, not like it would have three months ago.

I swallowed thickly, suddenly extremely unsure of my decision to come here. Maybe I should have called instead of just assuming this would be the best way to let him know that I was serious this time, that I wanted to be his old lady—that I wanted his kind of control.

“What the fuck?!” Ink exploded. I jumped in my seat. “Jesus Christ, Jessie, Joey was flipping the fuck out!” he roared. “He had no goddamn idea where you were fucking headed!”

I swallowed thickly. Alejandro walked out of the kitchen without a single word, giving us privacy. “I—I wanted to come see you,” I told him. He clenched his jaw. “I knew if I told Joey where I was going, he would tell you and order a protection detail if he even let me come. So, I just kind of had to split.” I licked my lips, so fucking nervous that it was almost insane.

Ink took a step towards me. “Well, what the fuck did you have to say to me, Jessie?” he asked me.

Not baby. Not my girl. Just Jessie.

I felt like throwing up. This had been a mistake.

But I came here to tell him I really wanted to be his, that I would do everything right this time. And I wasn’t leaving until I told him that, even if he did rip my heart out of my fucking chest as I did so.

I tilted my chin up, calling on courage that I really didn’t feel like I had at that moment. “I wanted to tell you that I’m ready to be yours,” I told him. He only stared at me, not a single fucking emotion in his expression. “I even went to therapy.” My palms were beginning to sweat. I rubbed them on my jeans. “I want everything with you, Ink. Even your way of loving me.” My voice broke, tears clogging my throat since his expression still hadn’t changed. “Please, Ink,” I choked out. I needed something—anything—besides his silence.

He took a step toward me. “You sure this is what you want?” My heart rate picked up speed in my chest. He wasn’t turning me away. He wasn’t completely done with me.

I hadn’t fucked everything up by being so hot and cold with him.

“Yes.” My voice came out strong and sure despite the fear that I was still feeling about possibly being turned away. “I’m absolutely sure. I’m not running anymore,” I promised him. “I’m ready for everything with you and all that being with you will entail.”

He crossed the distance between us and wrapped his hand around the back of my neck, drawing my lips up to his. I moaned, opening my lips beneath his, being sure to only follow his lead. I knew he needed this—needed to be the one in control right now. But that didn’t stop me from reaching up and touching him, running my hands over his muscular body, sliding them under his shirt to feel his warm, tense muscles beneath my palms.
