A wicked grin spreads across her face. “I say it’ll be ten minutes before we’re served. If I’m right, you pay.”

I chuckle. “Alright, I’ll play your little game. I say it’ll be five minutes because we’re so dammed fine.”

Ava throws her head back and laughs, and then she reaches over and shakes my hand. “Deal.”

I’ve known Ava since we were just ten years old, and we’ve been inseparable since. Completely opposite in looks and personality, we couldn’t be more different, and, yet, it works for us. She’s the only person I’ve ever had when things went bad in my life, and I couldn’t do it without her.

Ava is beautiful in the kind of way that stops men in their tracks. It’s not just her gorgeous figure, the blond hair, and the blue eyes, but the fact that when she laughs, it’s infectious. She has this vibe that draws you to her and makes you never want to leave. She’s bubbly and the light of every room she’s in.

So, when I hear the deep, husky voice behind me offering a drink, I’m assuming the man speaking is talking to Ava. Why wouldn’t he be? She’s in a tight black dress and has legs to God knows where. I’m the opposite, wearing short denim pants and a tank top that’s a little too tight. My hair is a dark shade of red, and my eyes are emerald green. My hair has always been what makes me stand out from a crowd, but when I’m beside Ava, all that disappears because she’s ... well ... Ava.

“Did you hear me, lady? Can I buy you a drink?”

He’s not speaking to Ava, he’s speaking to me.

I turn slowly and come face to face with one of the most spectacular men I have ever had the pleasure of laying my eyes on. He’s everything I’d usually go for. The tall, dark, and handsome is strong in this one. His hair is messy, little strands of it falling around his face, and in here, it looks to be almost black. His eyes are light blue, so light they look like glass, like you could just see right through them. His skin is that creamy olive, like warm milk and coffee, and his body ... Oh, his body. The guy is massive, and I don’t say that lightly. He’s a good six foot something of pure, solid muscle.

Man is fine.

“Me?”

I sound stupid, I know I do. But men like him, they don’t usually come to me first. Ava has turned around beside me and her brows are raised as she stares as the man standing before me. When she pulls her bottom lip into her mouth, I know what she’s thinking, this man is fucking fire.

“Yeah you, beautiful.”

Beautiful?

Is he serious?

I’ve been called a few things in my time, I can’t say beautiful is one of the words that comes up often.

Ava nudges me when I stand there, not saying a damned word, just staring like a love-struck teenager.

I get it together.

“I’ll have vodka and tonic.”

The man smirks at me, the little side lift of his lips that makes me weak at the knees. I can’t say I’ve seen a man that looks like him in quite some time. Not taking my eyes off him, I watch as he turns and slams his hand down onto the bar. The bartender immediately rushes over as if there aren’t a shit load of other people waiting.

“What can I get you, sir?”

Sir? Last time I checked, no one called anyone sir in a club, like ever. Mystery man leans over the bar and puts in an order, and the bartender rushes off right away after giving him a sharp nod. I stare at the tattoos running up his arms as he leans on the bar, some Celtic design, a mix of patterns and dark shades. It’s very appealing. So is the tight dark shirt and black jeans he’s sporting. Don’t get me started on the boots. He’s a bad boy, and he is making sure everyone knows it.

Ava leans in and whispers in my ear. “Oh my, girl, if you don’t ride that all the way home, I will.”

I grin and nudge her. “I’m still in shock. Do you think he’s blind?”

Ava glowers at me, crossing her arms. “You’re fucking gorgeous and the man is not blind, he’s into you. You better take him home, or trust me, someone else will.”

She’s right. This one won’t last long.

Still, he’s picking me? Why?

“Seriously, though,” she whispers into my ear, her hand on my arm so she can get in close, “how long has it been since you’ve had sex?”

Ugh. Don’t even. The last time was with Danny, my long-term boyfriend. Not only was he shit in bed, but the man was an abusive prick. He had a temper that far outmatched my own and he made sure I knew that I belonged to him and nobody else. To the point that when he found me out one night, dancing with my friends, he hit me.
