“Of course he is,” Haley calmly assured her. “He’s standing next to Desmond.”
Nadia gave a shaky sigh of relief. “I was afraid he would change his mind at the last minute.” Nadia gripped Haley’s arm nervously. “I never expected to love someone as much as I do him.”
“I’m not surprised. You’re the kindest person I know. You made me your friend when I had no one. You make sure dozens of children are safe and have a safe roof over their heads, with food to eat. You deserve every ounce of love Dante showers on you.”
“Don’t make me cry again.” She sniffled back the tears at what Haley had said.
“Then I suggest we go get you married while you still have some mascara on.”
To say that their ceremony was everything she had always wanted was an understatement. The most meaningful moment to her was when she saw a sheen gloss over Dante’s icy eyes while he said his vows as the orange sun was setting behind him. It would be a moment she would never forget, not even in her final dying breath.
With their reception lasting well into the early morning, they left after saying goodbye to their fun-fueled guests and headed down to their room. Exhausted from the festivities, they passed out on the bed, and when she woke, she found herself laying on top of Dante’s chest.
“What time is it?” she asked groggily.
Stirring next to her, Dante looked at his phone. “Don’t ask.”
Nadia tried to raise her head only to have to lower it back down at the stinging sensation. “I think my hair is stuck to the headboard.”
Shifting upward, Dante turned on the light. “How much hairspray did you use?”
“Don’t ask,” she replied with a laugh.
After Dante detangled her hair for her, she shimmied out of the bed.
“I have to go take a shower to wash my hair and get this makeup off.”
“You want some company?” he asked, smiling, clearly reminiscing about the first night they had slept together.
“Are you going to behave yourself?”
He shrugged. “Probably not.”
Expecting as much, she winked. “Then come on.”
Going into the bathroom, she removed the panty set she had been wearing when she had taken off her wedding dress while Dante started the water for her.
The slightly warm water was refreshing, and with Dante helping her wash her hair, it didn’t take long before she felt half-human again.
“I was afraid you wouldn’t show up,” she said, pressing kisses along his collarbone only to have him booming with laughter.
“I had Amo stationed outside your door to make sure you didn’t run off.”
Joining in on the chuckling, she was thinking how perfectly they matched when Dante suddenly left her in the shower. She turned the shower water off to see that her husband was starting a bath.
“Exactly what are you planning, Mr. Caruso?” she asked with a reminiscing smile of her own.
Stepping into the luxurious tub foaming with the Sunshine Kisses bubble bath, he sat down before he held out a hand to help his wife carefully inside. Waiting until she snugly fit in front of him, he curled two palms over her breasts and pulled her back to his chest.
“Making wine from sunshine, Mrs. Caruso.”
