So why did she look like he’d kicked her?

Because he’d said it was weird to speak to his dick? He didn't really mean it. Well, it was weird.

But he didn’t care that much.

“Maeve,” he said quietly.

She moved to the burned bacon, throwing it into the garbage bin. “Sorry, I burned breakfast.”

Fuck.

How did he make this better?

You could try hugging her.

Fuck. Shit.

Fine.

He stomped over behind her and held out his arms. “Come here.”

She turned to look at him, puzzlement filling her face. “What is it?”

“I’m going to give you a hug. Come here.”

Her eyebrows rose. “You are? Why?”

“I upset you. I should make it better.”

She shook her head, but he saw her lips twitch. She was amused.

Thank fuck.

“Is that how you hug someone?” she asked.

“Well, how the hell do you do it? By rubbing your nose against theirs?” What did she want from him?

“No, but I figured you might reach out to them. Not open your arms up and bark at them to come here.”

He grunted. “You want the hug or what, girl? Cause you got until I count to three. One—”

He didn’t get any further before she threw herself at him. He had to take half a step back as she wrapped herself around him like a limpet.

Slowly, he slipped his arms around her, slightly scared of spooking her. Damn, this felt good. Sure, he’d given subs aftercare. But most of them didn’t look to him for a hug. He wasn’t the type and they knew that.

But here you are, voluntarily hugging this girl.

And she smelled so good.

Strawberries and mint.

He took her in, holding her loosely since he didn’t want to hurt her. To his shock, she was the one to end the hug. She stepped back and smiled up at him.

“So, I made a real mess of breakfast. Can I interest you in a Pop-Tart?”

Pop-Tart? Like fuck was he eating a damn Pop-Tart. And he liked the idea of her having that for breakfast even less. She needed something healthier to eat.

“Why did you leave the bacon while it was cooking?” he asked.

“Not that often. I had to pee. And then I got distracted plucking my eyebrows. Okay, so sometimes I forget when I have something on, and I go do something else. But I don’t really cook much. Not here, at least. Pop-Tarts and toast are basically a staple.”

Okay, he really didn’t like that.

“Why are there no cooking facilities?” he barked, grabbing his boxers and pulling them on.

She sighed quietly as he covered up his cock. Yeah, his dick liked that. Too much. Fuck, he hadn’t even had a chance to use the bathroom and he was already getting hard again. He was meant to be getting dressed. Not getting her back into bed.

“There are downstairs,” she told him. “But I don’t like using them. They are on the basement level where the laundry is, but there’s only one set of stairs in and out. I don’t want to get trapped down there. In a fire, it would be a nightmare.”

He frowned, as he did up his jeans.

“Do you want me to help you with that?” She waved at him.

“What? You want to help me put on my jeans? Been doing that since I was three.”

“Um, no. I figured you could probably dress yourself. I was talking about the erection you’re sporting. I could help with that.”

Fuck.

That was tempting.

But he shook his head, surprised by the flash of disappointment in her face. She really wanted to suck him off?

He liked that. How much she enjoyed having his dick in her mouth.

But she smiled widely and he wondered if he’d imagined the disappointment.

“All right,” she said. “I guess you have to get going.”

“Yep.” He tugged on his shirt and then sat to put on his socks and shoes.

She just stood there, watching him. He glanced over at her, taking in her purple tights and the oversized cream sweater with a gold heart on the front. She looked adorable. Especially with her hair twisted up on her head and a purple scrunchie holding it in place. Tendrils were coming down around her face.

“Get your shoes and a jacket,” he ordered without thinking.

“Why?”

He stared at her. Always questioning him. If she was his . . .

No, nope.

Not going to be yours.

But he couldn’t stop imagining it.

“Because I’m taking you out for breakfast.”

To his shock, a bright smile filled her face. It dazzled him. It wasn’t that he hadn’t seen her smile before. She was weirdly cheerful. But he hadn’t seen this sort of smile.

“Breakfast? Really?”

Did something this small really make her this happy? If so, he wished he’d thought of it earlier. He could have come around a few days ago to take her out . . .

No, nope.

That wasn’t what they were doing.

He turned her toward her closet and patted her ass gently. “Shoes. Jacket.” He managed to get himself into the bathroom. Leaning his hands on the counter, he took a few deep breaths.
