His phone chimes, and he checks the message, tapping out a reply with a grin. In my gut, I know it’s her. And it confirms there’s only one solution to this dumpster fire. I need to eradicate these residual feelings for her, whatever they may be.

“I’ve gotta go take a shower before everyone gets here.” Adam stands up and stuffs his phone into his pocket. “Just think about coming down for a bit, alright? A little fun won’t kill you.”

“Fun?” I grunt. “What the fuck is fun about hanging out with your friends?”

“There will be booze, tits, and ass.” He winks. “Trust me when I say you’d have to be a eunuch to stay celibate at this party. So dust off your dick and get it wet, if nothing else. You look like you need it.”

I shrug, deciding tonight is the night I no longer give a fuck. “Sure. Whatever.”

The party is still in full swing by the time midnight rolls around. I found a quiet corner under the pergola and a bottle of tequila, and I’ve managed to only look at Bianca and Adam about a thousand fucking times.

She’s wearing another white dress, and nothing has ever looked so unholy. As the late hour wears on, I’ve noticed Adam getting handsier as he leads her around the yard like a show pony. She smiles and nods when she’s supposed to, but it seems forced. Or maybe that’s just what I want to believe.

Every once in a while, I catch her glancing back at me, but only for a second. Never long enough to read her face. She doesn’t try to approach me, but I can tell she’s uncomfortable. And I want to know how she’s going to play this. How she’ll explain to her parents that the deviant from the ranch is her boyfriend’s brother, and oh, by the way, his family doesn’t know.

When Adam takes her back to the pool house tonight, I wonder if she’ll think of me as he slips inside her.

“Motherfucker,” I hiss quietly in the darkness.

This sick obsession festers inside me, and I have to make it stop. I have to exorcise Bianca from my thoughts, once and for all.

In my irritation, I glance around the yard and spot Tori Campbell peeking over at me. She’s one of Adam’s exes, but she’s been hanging around Bianca all night, so they must be friends too. I know her a little from when she spent time here, and I could tell she had a thing for me. Whenever he brought her around, she always stared at me, which bothered him. I don’t know what happened between them, but apparently, there aren’t any hard feelings considering she’s here. And now she’s fair game, so…

I nod in her direction, and she cracks a small, shy smile. Adam always said she had daddy issues and that any guy who paid her attention could have her for the night. It was a dick move for him to say it and an even bigger one for me to exploit it, but right now, I don’t give a fuck. I need to forget.

I jerk my chin, gesturing for her. She comes to me, long, tan legs swaying in a jean skirt and boots.

“Hey, Madden.” She smiles down at me. “I haven’t seen you around in a long time. How’ve you been?”

I cut to the chase, not mincing words about what this is. “Want to find a quiet place and get the fuck out of here?”

She doesn’t hesitate to nod, so I stand and reach for her hand, tugging her along toward the pool house. This is where Adam brings all of his conquests, and I have no doubt he’ll be dragging Bianca this way any minute now. Too bad for them, it will be occupied.

I shut the door behind us and turn on some music from my phone. Tori gets into it, swaying in time to the beat. I sit on the lounge chair, kicking my feet up and relaxing as I watch her and swig from the tequila bottle.

“You want me to join you?” she asks.

“Yeah.”

I’m dead inside, and it sounds like it. But Tori doesn’t notice. She laughs softly and gives me a little show, dancing to a slower, more sensual rhythm. When she finishes that, she prowls toward me, kneeling on the end of the lounge chair and crawling her way over me until she plants her ass in my lap.

She grinds on me, and I set the bottle aside and lean back, closing my eyes. I don’t want to see her. I don’t want to think about her or anyone else. I just want to feel something.

“Tell me what you want,” she whispers.

Tell her what I want? I want something I can’t have. Something she can’t give me.

“Just keep doing that,” I say.
