She smiled up at me. “Well, you did look pretty pale there for a minute. I wasn’t sure who needed oxygen more—you or me.”
I snorted, shaking my head even as warmth bloomed in my chest. “Just because I’m a trauma surgeon doesn’t mean I was prepared to see my wife in that much pain without wanting to tear the hospital apart brick by brick.”
Her lips curved wider, her eyes dancing with gentle humor and exhaustion. “I’m pretty sure the nurses noticed. You might have scared a few of them.”
“Good.” I glanced toward the door. “Then they’ll keep their distance while I make sure you’re taken care of.”
Hadley laughed, shifting her gaze back to the small bundles she held against her chest. Her expression turned almost awed as her fingers stroked gently over their tiny heads, dark wisps of hair peeking out from the blankets.
“I still can’t believe they’re ours,” she whispered. “They’re perfect.”
My heart twisted as I leaned closer, carefully brushing my fingers along each small, soft cheek. Emotion welled, almost overwhelming me as I stared at the two little miracles who’d changed everything.
“Perfect,” I echoed, my voice rough with feeling. “Because they’re half you.”
She lifted her gaze again, her cheeks flushing softly, a quiet smile tugging at her lips. “And half you, Thayer. They’re going to be unstoppable.”
I grinned back at her, my chest tightening with the kind of love I never knew I’d find. “We’re gonna need help when they start talking back. I’m gonna be outnumbered and completely screwed.”
Hadley laughed softly, leaning her head back against the pillows. “Something tells me you’ll have them wrapped around your finger in no time. Especially our daughter. I don’t think she’ll ever hear the word no from you.”
“You think?” I arched a brow, pretending to scowl even as I felt my chest expand with fierce pride. “Because from the way the nurses kept whispering, I have a reputation for being pretty damn intimidating.”
Hadley rolled her eyes playfully, still smiling. “They should see you cuddling your babies. That would definitely ruin your scary biker doctor reputation forever.”
“Speaking of,” I murmured, reaching down carefully. “You ready to let me hold one of them yet?”
She laughed quietly, shifting gently so I could take my little girl into my arms. The moment her tiny body settled against my chest, my breath caught in my throat. My daughter’s sleepy eyes blinked open slowly—deep green like Hadley’s—locking right onto mine as her tiny fingers curled softly around my thumb.
“You’re done for,” Hadley teased gently.
I gently rocked my sweet baby girl, careful with every movement. I brushed my lips softly against her little forehead, inhaling that new baby scent I knew I’d never forget.
“Just like her mother,” I murmured. “You both own me completely. Have from the first moment.”
Hadley’s eyes filled softly, her smile turning tender. “We’re yours forever, Thayer.”
I met her gaze steadily. “Good, baby. Because I don’t plan on ever letting go.”
A knock came at the door, breaking the quiet intimacy of our moment. I looked up as the door cracked open slightly, revealing Nitro’s face, who lit up with a smug smile when he spotted me.
“You done melting into a fucking puddle, Doc?” he drawled, smirking widely. “Because we’re itching to meet the newest Kings.”
Hadley laughed softly, glancing toward the waiting crowd. I leaned down and kissed her quickly, holding her gaze for a beat longer. “Ready for this?”
She nodded, her eyes dancing. “Absolutely.”
I turned back to Nitro, shaking my head as he led Jana into the room, followed closely by Kane and Savannah. “Keep it quiet. Wake my kids, and you’ll need another trauma surgeon to save your life.”
Kane’s lips twitched, and he raised his hands innocently. “Noted, brother. Not a damn peep.”
Then he clapped a strong hand on my shoulder, his eyes softening briefly when he looked down at the small bundle in my arms.
“Congratulations, Cage. You’ve done well, brother.” His mouth curved into one of his rare grins, his eyes twinkling faintly. “Good luck sleeping from now on.”
I snorted, glancing back at Hadley, who smiled softly up at me, our son still sleeping peacefully in her arms. Lack of sleep didn’t matter, not when everything I’d ever wanted was right here in this room, surrounded by the family we’d built.
The two tiny lives Hadley had just gifted me were proof that sometimes the best things in life came when you least expected them. Even when you never thought you’d find them at all.
