“Go on, get her out of here. I’ve got this. Take my bike, it’ll be faster,” Noah says as he tosses Cole his key.

“Where’s Kate?” Cole demands.

“In the trenches.” Noah nods.

I barely get a glance at my best friend standing in the middle of a gunfight before I’m over Cole’s shoulder as he storms out. I don’t want to leave Kate in the middle of that, but I don’t have a choice as Cole leaves through a back door one of his guys is standing in front of.

Well, I guess the night is over.

CHAPTER 25

Unfinished Dance

Brooklyn

I pull the bike into the garage of the house we keep here and park next to Logan’s Bentley. This is his place, but we all have access. I had planned to come here for the night after the party.

Cutting the bike off, I pull out my phone to send a text for an update. DJ climbs from behind me on the bike and pulls her helmet off. Setting my phone down in front of me as I wait for a reply, I take my own helmet off.

My phone buzzes as I tuck the helmet under my arm. I grunt as I read that they got all the guys. But Walter, one of my guys, was hit. Noah is taking care of him and helping Seán clean that mess up. Emory and Arnez are getting Kate back to Cork.

“Is Kate okay?”

I look up to find DJ watching me. She’s chewing on her lip as she looks nervously back at me. I scan her body with my eyes and freeze with rage.

There’s blood on the side of her dress. I put the helmet down and hop off the bike. In the next breath, I’m standing in front of her.

“You were hit?”

She looks down then back up at me. Without waiting for her to answer, I reach to tear the dress open to get a view of her skin. She gasps and takes a step back.

“I wasn’t shot, Cole. I think I nicked my side when I almost fell. There was so much adrenaline running through me, I didn’t feel it until now. It’s just a scratch, I’m fine.”

“Fuck,” I roar and spin away from her.

I grab the helmet from the bike and toss it at the wall. This is exactly why I’ve kept her hidden. I can’t believe I allowed this to happen.

She comes up behind me and wraps her arms around my waist. I close my eyes as I try to see straight. If McCarthy wasn’t already dead, I’d kill his ass again.

“Hey, I’m fine. Ya really know how to throw a hell of a party,” she jokes.

I turn and place my hands on her hips, pushing her back until her back is against the Bentley. I kiss her hard, needing to feel her lips against mine.

Breaking the kiss, I pull away and look down at her torn dress. Reaching for the soft fabric, I rip the rest from her body and toss it to the floor.

All that’s left is the piece around her neck. She’s now standing in front of me in those sexy-as-fuck heels and a high-waisted thong. I know it’s a thong because I felt it earlier this evening when I slid a hand into the slit of her dress to see if she was wearing any panties at all.

“I liked that dress,” she pouts.

“I’ll get ya a new one.”

“What about my dance? We didn’t get to finish it. I was hoping we’d get to dance to our song,” she says with a little smile on her lips.

As she looks me over from head to toe, I know exactly what song she’s talking about. It’s the song we fuck to a lot. I look her over as she stands before me.

I would have liked to dance with her to that song too. With a grin on my lips, I saunter over to the key holder on the wall and find the key to the Bentley. Making quick work of the task, I open the car and link my phone.

Once I have my phone synced, I pull up the song she’s talking about. “Hold You (Hold Yuh)” by Gyptian begins to play through the garage. I unfold from the driver’s seat and make my way back around the car, where I left her standing.

“Come here, love. I owe ya a dance. No interruptions.”

She’s hesitant for a beat. I lift a brow as I hold out my hand. She lifts her hand and smooths it down her bangs.

I love the cute ponytail and bangs she has tonight. There are pieces curled on each side of the bangs and the ponytail is curled as well. It’s perfect for her face.

DJ gives me a nervous smile. I look her in the eyes, wondering if this is when she’s going to fall apart after what happened tonight. I’d understand if she did.
