“Afraid I can’t stay, after all,” I say to Aurora.

She places her hand over mine.

A serious no-no for any submissive.

Perhaps the rules are different here in Las Vegas. I don’t know, and I just realized I don’t really want to know.

Admittedly, this place is a feast for the eyes. Sex going on in front of us. No bondage play, though. Mostly just regular sex out here in the open.

“It was nice to meet you.” I rise, walk out of the club, not even bothering to look back.

Aurora is beautiful, no doubt. The type I usually go for.

But Mary…

Sweet and passionate Mary…

Damn it all to hell.

I’m having feelings I have no business having.

And after I just left Keira for the same reason. Except with the two of us, she was the one having feelings. I leave the club and head back to the Las Vegas strip.

No one ever sleeps in this city. It’s too late to get into any of the worthwhile shows.

So I simply walk by all the pimps hawking their women.

“Want to see a good show?” one of them asks me.

“No, thank you,” I say.

Pamphlets gets shoved in my hand, photos of women.

Not interested. I could’ve had a woman more beautiful than any of them at the club.

I head back to my hotel, walk around the casino. I’m not a huge gambler, but I enjoy some blackjack now and then.

I sit down at one of the tables, play a few hands, lose three hundred bucks.

Okay. Now I’m done.

I head back up to my bedroom. And I do the unthinkable.

I call Mary.

It rings once, twice, six times before it goes to voicemail.

“Hi, this is Mary. I’m so sorry I missed your call. Please leave me a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.”

Just the sound of her fucking voice makes me hard.

I open my mouth, but I don’t know what to say.

So I don’t leave a message.

I wish I could take the call back.

It’s Friday night. Where is she?

At Black Rose without me? We don’t have any understanding between us. She’s free to do as she pleases.

Most subs like her spend Friday and Saturday evenings at a club.

Damn.

Jealousy spears into my gut.

I’ve got to do something about this.

I can’t leave Las Vegas, though.

I have meetings all through tomorrow. Then I leave on Sunday.

So I text Mary.

I return Sunday afternoon.

I’m coming to see you at your apartment. Be there.

Chapter Thirty-Four

Mary

“He’s got some nerve,” Brenda says after I read Ronan’s text.

We’re having drinks at her place, waiting for Dalton. His flight lands in an hour, and then he’ll come to Brenda’s place in a cab.

At which time, I will exit.

But I need a friend tonight.

I initially came to vent about my accidental meeting with Lucas, but we quickly shifted the subject onto Ronan.

“Who does he think he is?” Brenda says, shaking her head.

“He’s a Dominant.”

“Yes, but he’s not your Dominant. He’s only your Dominant when you’re doing a scene together. What the hell happened between you two in New Orleans?”

“I’m not sure. I think…” I shake my head vehemently. “Seeing Lucas today brought it all back. What it’s like to have feelings for a Dominant when they’re not returned. I can’t go back there, Bren. I just can’t.”

“It’s interesting that Ronan is taking his time with you. Are you sure he’s not having feelings himself?”

“No. If he were, he wouldn’t have canceled a date at the club via text.” I did see his call on my phone, but he didn’t leave a voicemail, either.

“That’s true…” Brenda takes a sip of her wine. “I still say he has a lot of nerve.”

“Agree one hundred percent.”

I’m playing the part, for sure. But inside, I desperately want to obey Ronan. I want to be at my place Sunday afternoon when he gets in. I want to be ready for him, naked, holding my wrists out for him to bind.

What the hell is wrong with me?

I never wanted to be a full-time submissive.

Even Brenda and Dalton don’t practice the lifestyle full-time. They only play at the club. At home, they have normal sex. Brenda told me.

“So, back to Lucas,” she says.

Anger seeps into me. “There’s nothing else to say about Lucas. He’s still a dick. I’m not sure how I ever developed feelings for him in the first place.”

“Innocence.” Brenda takes another sip. “Innocence is the biggest fault when you’re young and innocent.”

I wrinkle my forehead. “Uh…what the hell did you just say?”

“Hell, I don’t know. I’ve had a lot of wine.”

“Of course you’re young and innocent when you’re young and innocent,” I nearly snap. “I can’t believe you thought I would want to go back to that.”

“Ease up, Mare. That’s not what I said and you know it.”

I let out a breath. “Sorry. You’re right. I’m not angry with you. I’m pissed about Lucas, but mostly I’m upset about Ronan.”
