“Crew will get over it since we got what we needed. Cameras inside. Documentation on the distribution of meth out of another one of their businesses. That was the most important part of you going undercover.”

He was right. “Yeah.”

“All right, I’ll keep an eye out for her on the live feed and also for you until your clear from that scene. I see shit going down, I’m calling in the cavalry. You got an ETA?”

“About thirty. Thanks for having my six, Nox.”

“Always, brother.”

As soon as they ended the call, he pointed the Ranger toward the Demons’ Uniontown church and scrambled to come up with a story of why he needed to steal a woman away from T-Bone.

“Ain’t you supposed to be at Pizza Town?” Decker heard as he strode across the common area with his head on a swivel, looking for any signs of Sadie.

He hadn’t said a word to Sloane yet. He didn’t want to disappoint her if it turned out the woman on the footage wasn’t her sister.

Or if Sadie disappeared before he could get there.

He glanced over at Wolf sitting on one of the couches, lit cigarette hanging out of his mouth, a half-full bottle of Jack Daniels in one hand and the other squeezing the tit of a naked chick on his lap, riding his dick.

“Just needed to stop in quick and pick somethin’ up,” he responded. “Know where T-Bone is?”

Wolf’s thick Neanderthal brow pulled low. “Why the fuck you lookin’ for T-Bone?”

“He’s got somethin’ I need. Thought he was here.”

“He’s somewhere.”

For fuck’s sake, that was goddamn helpful. But the truth was, he’d rather not run into T-Bone. It would be better to just grab Sadie—if it was her—then get the fuck out of Dodge.

Decker jerked his chin up at Wolf and kept moving. He headed down the hallway at the back of the former gas station to search the rooms in the new addition.

When he reached the corridor that ran past the bedrooms, he paused to listen.

He heard what might be a shower running in the communal bathroom to his right. Hopefully, it was T-Bone. If so, that might keep the prospect busy long enough for Decker to search.

He turned left and went down to the three rooms that were now completely finished and started at the farthest one since it was the only one with the door shut.

He pressed his ear to it, once again listening. He pulled out his phone and quickly texted Nox.

Keep an eye on the back corridor for T-Bone. If you see him (or anyone) heading my direction, give me a heads up.

Nox had to be watching the cameras closely, because not even five seconds later Decker got a simple 10-4 in response.

He tried the knob and found it unlocked. When he slowly pushed the door open his head snapped back when a foul odor hit him. His heart jumped into his throat because it was the smell of death. He only knew it far too well.

He softly called out, “Sadie?”

Nothing.

Using the illuminated screen on his cell phone, he shined it toward the wall, found the switch and flipped it, lighting up a damn disaster scene.

Nothing was organized. Clothes were in piles on the floor. Garbage strewn over the floors. Bike parts stacked in the far corner. Not one damn piece of furniture, except an inflatable mattress along the back wall.

And on that mattress with no sheets or pillows was a body partially covered. Whoever was tangled in that filthy blanket wasn’t moving but he could barely make out it was a woman. Or… a child since the body, curled up in a fetal position, was so damn small.

Jesus fucking Christ!

For a second he was transported back to the trap house where he found Amelia and Val. He quickly shook that shit free since he had no time to waste getting caught up in his head.

He squatted down next to the blow-up mattress that was full of so many stains that…

For fuck’s sake, he didn’t need to think about that, either. He needed to concentrate on the person under the blanket first.

The one with dull, thin and knotted strawberry blonde hair with missing chunks.

Pulling the blanket down enough to see the emaciated woman, he tapped his fingers against her sunken cheek. “Sadie?”

No response. His heart was in this throat when he couldn’t even see her chest moving. He pressed two fingers against her neck to check for a pulse.

She had one. Barely, but it was there. Thank fuck.

He pulled up one eyelid to find blown pupils. Using the flashlight on his cell phone, he waved it back and forth to see if they would be responsive. They weren’t. If he looked closely enough he could make out a thin circle of blue.

The same color as Sloane’s.

What wasn’t like Sloane was the scar tissue up and down both arms from shooting up. With the way they looked, he was damn sure she was now shooting up elsewhere. Between the toes, fingers, wherever she could find a usable vein.
