Dominick curses under his breath. “I have our legal team on it. They’re in connection with our source inside the police station, and I’m hoping we’ll have more answers soon. In the meantime, we’re meeting at my office tomorrow morning, eight a.m.”

“I’ll be there.”

Dominick hangs up, and Kane exhales heavily.

“It has to be whoever is messing with your family.”

Molly uncurls, and Kane reaches over to pet her belly.

“Yeah, but the problem is, we’re no closer to finding out who that is. The mayor’s house has been bugged, but he hasn’t given shit away. We know it has something to do with Carlos Santiago since two people have mentioned his name, but that’s all we’ve got.

“Have you combed through your brother’s things? He might’ve been working with whoever it was. We can’t prove it, but we think Anthony was working with them because he didn’t have the money or resources to do some of the things he did.”

“I have.” Kane leans back and scrubs his face in frustration. “Enrique was smart and wiped his devices before he died.”

“I hate to say this, but maybe someone should reach out to Hillary and see if she knows anything.”

Kane glances at me for several seconds and then smirks. “If I tell you something, you have to swear not to tell anyone.”

“What?” I ask nervously.

“You have to swear. It’s not my place to say anything, so if you open your mouth, Lorenzo will know I told you.”

“Tell me!”

“Lorenzo has been in touch with Hillary.”

“What?” I shriek. “Why? Oh my God, don’t tell me he’s back together with her.”

“Worse,” Kane says dryly. “She showed up at his house with a baby.”

“No!”

“Yep. He had a paternity test done, and the baby is his.”

“And he told you and not my brothers?”

“I was at the country club when he was getting shit-faced while he was waiting for the test results.”

“Poor Lorenzo. He’s stuck with her for life now.”

“That’s part of why he doesn’t want to tell your brothers. He’s afraid they’ll take her out.”

I snort out a laugh because he’s not wrong. Matteo loves Lorenzo like a brother, and he would definitely consider killing her if he thought it was for the best for Lorenzo and the baby.

“He hasn’t told them yet, but he told me that he asked Hillary if she knew anything about Carlos Santiago, and she said Enrique didn’t tell her anything.”

“Ugh, I can’t believe she’s back in his life. Lorenzo is such a good guy, and to be forced to live with that gold-digging bitch is cruel.”

“He’s not being forced to do anything,” Kane says, glancing at me. “She had his baby, and he wants them under his roof.”

“He might as well have been forced.” I scoff. “It’s that or let her crazy ass live somewhere else with his baby. There’s no way I would leave her with my baby. He’s doing what he has to do.”

“Speaking of babies …” Kane hits me with a gorgeous smirk and runs his hand up my leg to the top of my thigh.

Since I changed into my pajamas to watch TV, I’m in a tiny cotton tank and shorts, so his fingers easily slide underneath, finding my core quickly.

“Fuck, no panties,” he mutters, his whiskey-colored eyes filled with heat.

I part my legs to give him better access, and he pushes a single finger into me.

“Still full of my cum, I see.”

Ah, so this is where he’s going with his speaking of babies comment …

“I’m on birth control,” I point out. “Feel free to fill me with your cum.”

I can’t stand the way it drips out of me for hours afterward, but sex without a condom is way better than with one.

“You could get off it.”

“I could make you pull out every time.”

He chuckles. “I’m just saying, if you wanted to get off your birth control, I wouldn’t be opposed to you getting pregnant. I saw the way you looked at Dani and Matteo’s baby. You can’t tell me you don’t want one.”

Emotion clogs my throat as I think about what it would feel like to be able to carry a baby to term. To give birth to him or her and love them for the rest of my life.

But then I think about the way Matteo looked at Dani, and my heart sinks.

“I don’t want to have a baby,” I tell Kane. “I know you said it was part of the deal, but …”

“Ever?” he asks, his brows tightening in confusion.

“I don’t know.” I shift so his hand slides out of my shorts and stand, taking Molly with me. “Maybe one day, but not now.”

Not when my husband doesn’t love me.

When he only wants a baby to secure an heir and intertwine our families’ blood.

He might be a savvy businessman, dressed in a designer business suit, but he’s still the son of Joseph Rothschild—who was part of one of the most notorious crime families on the East Coast. And if I’ve learned one thing from growing up around men like him, it’s that business always comes first.
