But none of that matters. I followed Camille back here because of what Lycus said. I need to take some time for myself, and Camille is all mine, at least for this moment.

I lick and suck her, fingers doing their slick and lovely work, her fingers dig into my scalp as she climaxes on my tongue.

I growl my pleasure and keep going, sucking her through it, finally pulling back when she’s had enough.

I kiss her and make her lick her juices from my lips. “Good girl, asteraki mu,” I whisper, leaning back to study her flushed and lovely face. She’s blinking rapidly, trying to get control of herself. “I can leave you now, if that’s what you want.”

“It’s not that, Lord Evander, it’s just—” But her words are interrupted when the door opens.

“Okay, Camille, you’ve been looking skinny as fuck so I thought—”

Ophelia stands there, eyes wide with shock, holding a gyros platter in both hands. She’s curvy, with thick dark hair, tan skin, and big brown eyes. She blinks rapidly, staring at me on my knees in front of Camille, and Camille with her legs spread and her tights on the floor.

“Oh, fucking fuck,” Camille hisses as she quickly covers herself. “Phel, you shouldn’t have—”

“Holy shit,” Ophelia says with a nervous laugh. “Oh, my Christ almighty, I am so, so sorry, please, uh, as you were, I mean, keep on going, shit, okay, I’m leaving.” She slams the door and disappears.

“God damn it,” Camille groans and leans back, her cheeks bright red with embarrassment.

I smile as I stand and stretch. “I suppose they’ll have more to talk about now.”

“You asshole.” Camille jumps to her feet, yanking her tights back on. “I was just starting to fit in and now you had to go do that and ruin it.”

“I believe you were an active participant.”

“Fuck yourself, Evander.”

“Not if you can do it for me.”

“Can you just—” She groans in frustration as she shoves her shoes back on her feet. “Just leave me alone, okay? Whenever we do this, things just get more complicated and—” She stands there taking deep breaths to calm herself. “I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. Seriously, I’d probably be dead or homeless or back with him right now if it weren’t for you. But we really can’t.”

She shakes her head as she storms past me back into the diner.

I stand alone in the break room for a moment savoring the memory of her moans.

She’s not wrong—we really can’t. Everything I said to Lycus is true. Camille is Italian, and she’d be the last straw for many of my borderline captains.

But even as I lick her from my fingers, I know I’ll be back here tomorrow, sitting and listening to Lycus and watching her from a distance, waiting to get another taste, even if it kills me.

Chapter 10

Camille

I bury my face in my hands in the alley behind the diner as Ophelia cackles with pure and unbridled delight. “I knew Evander Kazan was into you but I had no clue he was that into you,” she says, and I want to melt into the street and disappear.

“It’s not like that,” I tell her even though it sounds totally hollow, because it’s kind of hard to deny what she saw.

“Oh, it’s not? So you just let random guys go down on you in the break room of my dad’s diner all the time?”

“No!” I say and pull my knees to my chest. “Just Evander. Apparently. And only that one time.”

“Right, well, it sounds like he’s into you.” She sits down next to me, grinning her head off. “Seriously, Camille, he’s been coming into the diner every day since you started and all he does is stare at you. How can you sit there and act like there’s nothing happening between the two of you?”

“Because there’s not,” I say which is almost true. Things with Evander are complicated. He saved my life back at that stupid car rental place, got me an apartment and gave me an advance on my future paychecks, and even made sure I had enough food to keep me comfortable until I started earning my own money. He didn’t need to do any of that—but he did anyway.

He took care of me. And in exchange, I’ve done nothing but ignore him.

Seriously. We’ve barely spoken in the last two weeks.

It’s not that I don’t want to, but more that I’m afraid what’ll happen if I let myself get more involved with him.

Which apparently doesn’t apply to letting him go down on me.

Ophelia’s right though, he shows up every day and he watches me.

I try to pretend like I don’t notice and watch him right back.

I daydream about the night we spent together, and while it was amazing and definitely lives in my head rent free, I accepted that we were never going down that road again.
