Dove has never really had anything in life that she’s loved, she works long hours for really little money and lives in a part of town that most people avoid. Her mother hates her and her sister avoids her at all costs, it’s not until she’s forced to take on a roll, she never in a million years ever thought she would. She’s never really had any plans about life, living pay check to pay check, but Dove is thrust into a situation she never imagined she would ever do. But with an unexpected gift handed to her will, it change her life for the better and is she really up to the task…

Socket hasn’t been the same since Jewel, he’s never wanted anything other than the life of a biker. His love of riding tattooing drinking and partying are the only things he’s ever wanted apart from being a member of The Devils Soldiers. The Brothers are his family and all he needs, but life has a way of showing you what you really need, and the universe sure as hell has given Socket the most unexpected slap in more ways than ONE…

The music loud the lights are down and the smell of sex lingers in the air, as I look around at all of the friends I’ve known for years I tear up. Socket standing at the bar with some floozy hanging off him and he loves it, they all do. The last five years have been fun, parties riding with Socket and the girls. My life up until this morning was going the way I wanted it, I had a man who I loved a club full of amazing people who had my back and I even liked my job. But one little word on a white stick changed everything.

The reason Socket and I worked so well was we both loved sex and lots of it, but there were rules with Socket and that was ‘NO KIDS EVER’ and I understood. There was no way I wanted kids and Socket was fun, but he just wasn’t ‘my one’. I knew there was no happily ever after with Socket. I stand up and walk to the door taking one last look, even though I never wanted kids, having one in me changed everything. “You leavin’ darlin’” Tiny asks and I nod

“Yeah, I’m a bit tired”

“You gettin’ Socket?”

“Nah, he’s having too much fun” Tiny looks over at Socket and the bitch

“You sure” I nod patting him on his large chest

“I’m all good Tiny, Night” I tell him taking a deep breath and walking to my car

I pack the things that mean anything to me and leave the rest, I write a simple goodbye note to Socket and head out the door not even looking back.

Goodbye Socket, I hope you find what you’re looking for in life.

Love always Jewel xoxo

No letter of sorrow, just a simple wish you well in life, because that’s what the little peanut and I are going to have a simple life…

***

Chapter One

Dove

“Order up” I look up at JT as he slides another plate on the counter

“JT, I said scrambled eggs” he looks at the plate and moans, he’s been getting orders wrong all day and it’s starting to piss me off. “You ok?” I ask him as the bell above the door rings and I look up seeing two Sheriffs’ deputies, they walk straight to the counter looking around “Can I help you officers?”

“Looking for a Dove Baker” I frown knowing I haven’t broken the law

“I’m Dove Baker” I tell them and they both look at each other

“May we have a private word Miss Baker” I look at Delores and she nods, but keeps her distance, she hates cops, something she’s said many a time. I follow the officer outside so we can have some privacy.

We walk closer to their cruiser and they both turn and look at me again and I get that bad feeling running up my spin. “Miss Baker where here in regards to your sister Simone” I look at both of them, I haven’t seen Simone in over two years and even before than we never really had a relationship that was friendly

“What about her?” I ask them

“She was killed yesterday evening” he tells me and I stare at them as I feel myself go a little numb, we never really got on but she was still my sister. “Miss Baker are you ok?” (am I ok) I shake my head

“No, I’m not ok, you just told me that my sister died, how do you think I feel?” I sarcastically tell them

“We understand ma’am”

“Is that all?” I ask them but one of them shakes their heads

“I am sorry ma’am, but we need you to come down to the morgue and identify her”

“What? no way, go and ask my useless mother”

“We already have and if she’s not claimed, then she goes to the paupers’ burial next month”

“Paupers’ burial?” I ask not sure what the hell that is

“It’s where all of the unclaimed bodies are all buried together in a mass grave or just cremated together and dumped”

“Oh god”

“Will you come and see if it’s your sister, this woman needs to be identified” I nod my head not wanting to but if it is Simone, I don’t want her to be buried with complete strangers or burned with complete strangers.

*

It’s the smell that hits you first, that weird chemical smell that you smell in hospitals but this is stronger. I’m led down a long corridor and through two rooms, the officer taps on the window and the door off to the side opens, a middle-aged man comes out with a white doctors’ coat and a clipboard

“Simone Baker” the officer says to him and the guy nods

“Ok give me a minute” he goes back into the room; the coldness of the room makes me shiver and the officer looks at me

“You ok?” he asks me concern in his look but I hold onto myself, just wanting to get this over with. A curtain is pulled back from the window and the man is standing in front of a body, a sheet covering it. My heart speeds up and I feel sick (please don’t be Simone) the officer turns to me as I step forward more
I remember walking into my dorm room on the first week of college, and this small mousy little woman was studying already, she shied away from me only talking if I asked her a question. It took two months to really get to know her we’d both lost our mothers to Cancer the same year, so we connected through that and our love of studying. But I know nothing will, not until he sobers up or passes out.

My life has been like this for the past two years, it started out with one slap that shocked him. He begged me for over a month with apologies gifts and doing everything for me, I know it sounds dumb, but it was kind of romantic like it was for us when we first started dating.

But it was a punch the next time he hit me, then a slap than a punch, slap and kick from there it just got worse, and I’d had enough and left. My friends would take me in, but once Joe started tormenting and disrupting their lives, most of them just didn’t want to deal with the hassle of Joe. So, I was alone and not wanting to get my brother involved, there was no way I would risk Brayden’s life because of Joe, no way in hell, so I kept my abuse a secret.

After I finally got away and was granted a divorce, my life seemed to get back on track, I opened my own Florist shop, and things were great, life was great. But Joe just couldn’t let go, he hounded me day and night calling at all hours, getting a restraining order just made it worse. He started to interfere with my business, and finally, he destroyed that by burning it to the ground, hoping that if I had nothing, I’d be forced to go back to him, but there was no chance. I’d never put myself in that position ever again. I watched as my dream went up in flames, it really wasn’t until the roof of my business fell in that it really hit me. When I received my insurance check I broke down calling Brayden, he was my last hope of a normal life, and I was taking it.

***

Chapter One

Ella

My phone rang as I was packing the last box, my heart started racing until I saw it was a California number making me smile “Hey big brother, I officially just packed the last box.”

“Um, is this Ella, Chance’s sister,” an unknown voice says over the line, and I frown at the phone looking at the screen then placing it back to my ear

“Who is this?”

“This Ella or not,” the guy says, sounding annoyed (rude much)

“Yes, this is Ella, who is this?” I ask again

“Ella, my names Nash, I’m one of Chance’s Brothers.”

“Ok has something happened to Brayden,” I ask, and he takes a deep breath

“Look, there’s no easy way to say this, but Chance was killed yesterday in a car accident” my heart stops as I drop the phone and fall to the floor. “ELLA” is yelled through my phone and I pick it up “ELLA!” is yelled again

“I’m here,” I say through the phone, my heart breaking

“Look, I’m sorry, I just thought you should know” I look around at all of the boxes feeling numb

“When is the funeral?”

“Next week.”

“I’ll be there,” I tell him

“We’ll see you then.” The phone goes quiet, and I sit there in complete silence, my phone rings again, and I look at the screen (Joe). I stand up and throw my phone at the wall screaming so loud collapsing on the ground and punching the floor over and over until I drop to the ground. I lay there staring up at the ceiling “Brayden” I cry for so long that I fall asleep where I lay feeling cold numb and now utterly alone.

**

I arrive at the address that Nash had sent me, I’d put all of my things in storage, haven already given up my apartment. I was moving here to live with Brayden, so I was basically homeless plus this was a chance for Brayden and I to get to know each other again. We only ever saw each other a few times a year, and we talked all the time. But over the twelve years, he’d lived here this was the first time I’d ever been here. I pull up to the gates, and a guy stops me “Hey darlin’ this is private property no parties for a while” he tells me

“I’m Ella, Brayden was my brother,” I tell him, and he stares at me looking confused

“Who?” he asks me

“Chance,” I say, and he frowns

“Damn, I’m sorry park down the back.” I drive past a large group of motorbikes and quite a few people pulling in next to a big black truck and step out. The sun beaming down and I think that on days like this it’s a crime for the sun to be shining. A woman walks up to me smiling, and I look at her outfit and think of every biker movie or TV show I’ve ever seen, I look down at my dress and instantly cringe (why am I so fat goddammit)?
I pulled over and jumped out slamming the door screaming “FFFFFFUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKK” I screamed so loud until no more air would leave my body and I collapsed on the ground. The thought of Colt and Star breaking my heart and turning my stomach, my hands shook so hard I was that angry, sad, fucking pissed off and heartbroken all at the same time. The tears wouldn't stop either (why? how could he do this to me to us)

“Are you ok” a voice says and I looked up to see a woman in a jogging suit looking at me, I nodded my head and wiping the tears away. “Are you sure, have you broken down?” she asks but I shake my head

“No, I just needed a minute” (and to go back twenty-four hours)

“Are you sure” I stand up and face her wiping my hands down my dress, she looks me up and down, I know it's a judgmental look but she smiles.

“I'm fine thank you” I get back in my car and look out the front windscreen (what the fuck do I do now) I start to head home, as the turn comes up I just keep going, every time I closed my eyes there they were naked both of them in bed together. I drive for so long I having no idea where I was, fully on auto no destination in mind every road was just another mile to escape my broken heart…

***

Chapter One

Niya

I pulled up to a motel on the fourth day, my body running on gas station hotdogs and energy drinks and I was starting to feel it. I cried for so many miles that I had nothing left, my phone died after the millionth call and texts. I just needed to get away I couldn't face Colt, Maggie, Razor any of them especially not Star. I think if I saw either of them at the moment I would snap and my new gun skills definitely would have come into play, no I needed space time and in time courage to face them again.

*

The women at the reception desk looked up as I entered the office giving me the once over, I was still in my dress from the party so her next comments where understandable

“You alone” she asks me a cigarette hanging out of her mouth

“Yes”

“You sellin' yourself”

“No, I'm not selling myself” I tell the bitch as she looks at me again

“I don't want no trouble”

“Just give me the dam key”

“Checkouts at noon”

“I'll be staying a while” I tell her

“Humph you sell yourself I get a cut”

“I'm not a fucking whore” I grab the key and leave slamming the door on my way out “Fucking bitch” I mumble as I walked to my room. I had no luggage, no bags of any kind. I had my emergency money that I always kept in my car and that was it, but even that wasn't going to last for too long. The room wasn't too bad double bed, TV the usual motel looks to it, but what did I expect for twenty-five dollars. I lay down on the bed and just stare at the ceiling, how could my life go from amazing to shit in a matter of hours, but then my life has always been one shit moment to the next.

**

I'd been in the motel a few days and I felt so run down, I survived on vending machine food, not willing to leave my room for too long. I was still bursting into tears at the drop of the hat and still cried myself to sleep every night, images of Colt and Star together forever etched in my brain. I would wake up, remember and throw up it was never ending. My dress was starting to smell after the first week when I decided I needed clothes, I found a charity shop just down the block so I grabbed just a few things shirts, jeans a pair of flip flops and a pair of sand shoes. I also stopped in at the grocery store and picked up food that wasn't in a vending machine, as I was walking to my room a women's voice stopped me

“Hay girl, your new” I turn around to see a very pretty girl with brunette hair and curves that would make a pin-up jealous “Brandy” she says holding out her hand

“Oh, um I'm Niya” I lick off the Cheetos from my fingers and shake her hand

“What room you in?” she asks me

“Twenty-four you” she nods towards her door

“Nineteen where practically neighbors, how long you been here?” she asks me

“About a week I think” not really sure of how many days have gone by
