His teeth flash white with amusement. “I will keep my secrets, angel. For now, anyway.”

“You must have learned to harness some kind of angelic flight yourself,” I muse. “Or is it not the angels you take inspiration from, Starlight?”

The red hue of the moon coming through the window casts him in the color of the devil. His eyes are blue, but in this light, they seem almost red.

“Turn around,” he says. “You’ll want the use of your arms again. You can remove the toy too. Or leave it, if you’re not done playing with it.”

I turn around and put my wrists to the bars, allowing him to unshackle me. He’s being quite reasonable, really. Perhaps he feels guilty for nearly letting me be killed earlier today. I thought he would have fucked me by now. I assumed he’d brute force me sexually in the archetypical male attempt to dominate. But he has a little more nuance than that. He’s trying to get under my skin. He’s playing games at a higher level than one would expect from a man who abducted me by storming my facility with armed men before stuffing me into a travel crate.

My hands are free, but I am not. I am still caged, and harnessed, and filled with a small toy which does very little to satisfy. I remove it immediately beneath his smirking gaze and toss it out of the cage onto his bed where it lies, gleaming with my juices across its pink silicone frame.

“This wasn’t your plan, was it?” I look at him.

“Katie, you have no concept of my plan. Stop trying to understand and get some sleep.”

He passes me some black velvet cushions through the bars, and follows them up with pillows, and a comforter that will be of little comfort as I spend yet another evening contained like a dangerous animal.

Starlight

I have never slept so well as I do with Katie in my presence. I feel her like a glowing warmth next to the bed. It would be nice to bring her into my bed and feel that warmth pressed against me, but I feel and fear the presence of the dark man nearby. At any moment, he might come to claim her. That quells my lust for the moment. It is easier to defend a creature in a cage than it is a woman in my bed.

As I wake, I once more find myself wishing for her freedom so I might enjoy it myself. If my plan unfolds according to, well, plan, her experience here will be a series of slowly expanding cages, until she eventually tames herself to my will out of her own good sense.

I half-expect to see her sitting up, staring at me with angelic rage, but instead she is curled up in her cage like a good girl, cuddled up beneath her obsidian blanket, golden hair flowing over her dark bedding. She is delicate in repose and quite stunning. She is more beautiful than I imagined. I knew what she looked like, of course; I had encountered her before, but all things are different when they come into one’s own possession. Katie is transformed by being in my cage. I can smell her in the red-hued darkness of the night. She has a sweetness to her, an aroma of divinity.

Katie has maddened men for many years. She is beautiful but inaccessible. She keeps herself emotionally separate from everyone around her. A woman of her appeal and resources could have her pick of men, but she has never had a long-term relationship according to my information. Plenty of short-term partners, used and then discarded, left to imagine what might have been. It makes sense. She has to hide her nature from man, because she understands inherently how dangerous she is. She fears discovery, surrounds herself with guards, and created an entire institution to her kind. She and I are not all that different in outlook, though she hides from her shame and calls it pride.

Katya

He’s watching me. I feel the intensity of his attention washing over me as I lie, eyes closed, feeling into him. He is a strange creature. A man unlike any other man I have ever crossed before. That may be why I have allowed myself to be captured. Or at least, why I was captured. He might be the first man I have never given my consent. He is a creature of loathing. That much is certain. I can feel his hatred, though it is not for me. He hates something terribly and fears it even more.

“What will you do with me today, Starlight?” I ask the question with my eyes still closed. “Is my captivity enough for you?”

I know the answer to the second question is no. My captivity is not enough for the Sheriff. He is unsatisfied. He has not pierced me. He has not sunk his rod inside me. He is holding off for something before that happens. A revelation of some kind. I am intrigued, but I do not think I will discover the truth while the sun is high in the sky. Starlight’s truth is a dark one.
