“Same time tomorrow for the beach walk?” Sid asked as we reached my truck. “I want to see all seven locations now that I know what your father found there.”
“Tide’s out at ten. Bring good boots—the rocks near the lighthouse are slippery this time of year.”
“And Finn?”
I looked at my dog, already waiting by the passenger door, his breath fogging in the cold air. “Finn goes everywhere. Non-negotiable.”
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
I drove home through streets still glittering with Christmas lights, Finn a warm presence beside me. The mystery was solved, the artifacts protected, the villain arrested. But the best discoveries, I was beginning to understand, we weren’t always the ones you set out to find.
Dad’s note had said to trust myself. I was finally starting to learn how.
