Glancing over my shoulder to check if he's following, a thrill of delight runs up my spine when I see he's only a few paces behind. The forest is his kingdom, and he knows every slope and ridge, every nook, every cranny and every fallen branch or obstacle I've yet to find.

Adrenaline causes my hands to tremble and my legs to turn to jelly. I run for my life, but Draven picks up the pace, closing the gap. He is breathing heavily and getting closer until he catches me. A smug chuckle escapes his lips as he drags me down to the ground.

I fight as hard as I can, twisting and writhing, but he mirrors my actions.

With every kick, he grips harder. Every sharp elbow aimed at his ribs causes him to grunt, but I can only overpower him if he lets me. Because I know he doesn't intend to hurt me, I can relax and enjoy the tussle. Only desire exists; there is no fear.

Draven grips my hips, pinning my back against a tree by pressing his huge, muscled body into mine. Moonlight penetrates the canopy of leaves above, illuminating his face. His nostrils flare as he scans me with a heated gaze. The sheer power of his desire makes me tremble and moan.

"You can't get away from me now," he growls, winding his fingers through my hair. I gasp when he tugs, but he swallows the sound in an earth-shattering kiss. His lips crush mine, firm and commanding, making me gasp and struggle for breath.

Draven holds both wrists with one hand as he pulls my arms above my head. He sweeps his hand down my body, then cups my breast, kneading and stroking.

"The things I want to do to you." His husky voice makes me melt, and I surrender to the pleasure of the moment as he trails kisses down the side of my neck. "Is this what you wanted, Beauty? To be claimed by your beast right here, right now?" His gruff voice is at odds with the gentle way he presses his forehead to mine.

Draven makes me feel like the most beautiful woman on earth. But more than that, he makes me feel safe and cared for. He's hard, and I'm soaked, and I need him. Urgently.

"Take me," I murmur. "I'm yours."

He flips the button on my pants and tugs the zipper down. He eases his thick fingers inside, teasing me, inching deeper as I buck my hips, begging him to go even deeper. Desperate for release, I need more of him, more friction.

"Now. Please." My voice, barely above a whisper, catches in my throat.

Draven releases my wrists, unzips his pants, and grasps my hips with both hands. With his flared head touching my opening, he positions his cock. Our eyes lock when he penetrates me, sinking deep into my willing body. He thrusts deeper, pistoning his hips, his movements powerful and demanding.

I give myself to him, my back arching, my body bowing, helpless against the onslaught of desire. My release uncoils, and I throw my head back and moan into the night sky as pleasure tears through me.

Our coupling is animalistic and wild but so right. So pure. I willingly give him my heart and soul for all eternity. "I love you," I gasp, almost collapsing as he takes whatever he needs.

My back scrapes against the rough tree bark, but the naughty curve of his lips makes me forget everything. All I feel is pleasure and deep satisfaction.

Life before Draven is a blur. It is hard to remember who I was or what I did. I feel as though I'm waking up from a long slumber to find Draven is all I need. We can be happy together in Screaming Woods.

The future looks bright for us, but I need to deal with my past before we can move forward. Or I'll always be looking over my shoulder.

Chapter Nine

Draven

"This is the one," I growl, my fists planted on my desk as I lean close to the giant monitor tech-billionaire and fellow monster Atticus Hunt designed for me. "This is her." The art department captured her perfectly. Dahlia's fathomless, laughing blue eyes stare back at me from the screen, her copper hair spilling in waves down her back. She looks beautiful and fierce, exactly the type of woman you'd wage war to defend and protect. Precisely the type of woman capable of uniting a world ravaged by war.

"Shall I approve it, sir?" Marjorie Killbourn asks.

I hesitate, caught between the desire to say yes immediately and the need to run it by Dahlia first. I don't think she'd be thrilled to know I used her likeness in a video game without her consent. Not to mention, I'd never get it past my investors without her approval.

"Not yet. I'll let you know."
